About Merchdex

Built for the merchants AI is leaving behind

Product data problems cost independent merchants sales they do not know they are losing. We are building the infrastructure to find those problems, fix them, and prove the commercial result.

The internet is being rewritten. Independent merchants deserve a seat at the table.

When someone asks an AI agent to find the perfect jacket for a work trip, it searches structured product data in real time. Merchants with rich, validated, well-structured product data get recommended. Everyone else is invisible.

For large retailers, solving this is straightforward. They have engineering teams, data operations staff, and agency budgets measured in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. For independent merchants, the same problem can feel insurmountable: multiple protocol standards to comply with, thousands of products to enrich, and zero tooling built for their scale or budget.

Merchdex exists to fix that imbalance. Every capability in the platform was previously available only to merchants with enterprise infrastructure budgets. AI enrichment that PIM platforms charge $25,000 per year for. Multi-protocol feed generation that required dedicated engineering. Attribution dashboards that simply did not exist for SMB merchants. We built Merchdex to put those same tools in the hands of any independent brand on Shopify, starting at $99 per month with no engineering work required.

The shift to AI-mediated shopping does not have to widen the gap between large retailers and independent merchants. It can close it. That is what Merchdex is for.

What we believe

The principles behind the product

Merchants own their data

Every enriched attribute Merchdex generates is yours. Export it, use it elsewhere, or take it with you if you leave. We never lock you into a proprietary schema you cannot extract.

Honest numbers over flattering ones

We report net retained revenue - gross minus refunds. Inflated attribution models make dashboards look good and lead to bad commercial decisions. We tell you what you actually earned.

No promises we cannot keep

Merchdex does not guarantee your products will appear in ChatGPT or rank in Gemini. ACP and UCP integrations work by Merchdex hosting correctly formatted feed files that AI platforms crawl on their own schedules. We make your catalogue eligible, structured, and correctly formatted. The AI platforms decide what to recommend and when. That boundary is stated clearly in every channel card in the dashboard - not buried in terms of service.

Compliance is a product feature

The claim substantiation controls, the sensitive-claim blocklist, and the evidence requirements in our enrichment pipeline are not legal boilerplate - they are product features that protect merchants from regulatory risk before it becomes a problem.

We never touch shopper payments

Merchdex is merchant-side infrastructure. Shoppers checkout on your store. We track the attribution - who came from where - but we never handle payment data, act as a payment intermediary, or become your merchant of record. That boundary is permanent.

The playing field should be level

When AI agents became the new storefront, enterprise retailers moved immediately - deploying teams and budgets to ensure their products were the ones being recommended. Independent merchants had no equivalent path. Merchdex is that path. Enterprise-grade AI enrichment, protocol compliance, and attribution from $99 per month. No engineering team required. No minimum contract. No reason a well-made independent product should lose to a mediocre one from a bigger brand just because of infrastructure.

The level playing field

AI commerce should not be a game only enterprise retailers can win

The best independent brands often have better products than the giants. They should not be invisible to AI shoppers simply because they cannot afford the infrastructure to be found.

Enterprise-grade enrichment, SMB pricing

Platforms like Salsify and Akeneo charge $25,000–$100,000 per year for AI-native product enrichment. Merchdex delivers the same capability from $99 per month - with no implementation project, no consultant, and no minimum contract.

Protocol compliance without an engineering team

Complying with ACP, UCP, and Google Merchant Centre simultaneously requires engineering expertise that independent merchants simply do not have in-house. Merchdex handles all three from a single catalogue sync. No developer involvement. No protocol expertise required.

Attribution that used to require a data analyst

Large retailers employ data teams to measure where their AI-channel revenue is coming from, which products convert, and what the refund-adjusted return looks like. Merchdex puts that same reporting in your dashboard automatically, with no setup and no data expertise required.

"The best small brands should not lose to average big brands just because of infrastructure. Merchdex exists to close that gap."

The problem we're solving

AI agents need structured data. Most catalogues do not have it.

When a Shopify merchant uploads a product called "Navy Wool Blazer - Size M" with a 200-word description, it is readable by human shoppers navigating a product page. It is not readable by an AI agent trying to answer "I need a smart-casual blazer for a January conference in Melbourne, I'm a size 10 Australian, budget $400."

To answer that query confidently, an AI agent needs to know: fit profile (slim? relaxed?), formality level (business casual? formal?), climate suitability (cold weather?), occasion tags (conference, office), material weight, country of origin sizing standard, and a natural-language summary it can reason over.

None of that is in the original product listing. Generating it manually across a 2,000-product catalogue is months of work. Merchdex generates it in an afternoon, with merchant review and approval at every step.

The landscape

Why now, and why this approach

September 2025

OpenAI launches ACP (Agentic Commerce Protocol)

ChatGPT Instant Checkout goes live. Etsy and Shopify merchants are auto-enrolled. Everyone else needs to self-integrate or be excluded. ACP works by merchants hosting product feed files at URLs that OpenAI crawls - it is not a submission system. Merchants who are auto-enrolled still need enriched product data to be recommended in relevant queries.

November 2025

Black Friday - AI traffic grows 805% YoY

Adobe Analytics confirms AI-driven retail traffic acceleration. Merchants receiving AI referrals have no way to measure what converts or why.

January 2026

Google announces UCP at NRF

The Universal Commerce Protocol launches with a 20+ retailer coalition. Shopify merchants are enrolled. Independent brands on other platforms are not.

March 2026

OpenAI pivots ACP to discovery-only

Instant Checkout is replaced by a discovery model. The protocol stabilises. The data quality problem - not the plumbing - becomes the primary merchant challenge.

June 2026

Merchdex launches

Shopify-first AI commerce readiness platform. Enrichment, validation, feed export, and attribution in one product. No engineering required.

Who we're for

Built for independent Shopify merchants

Merchdex is designed for brands that sell independently - not through Amazon, not through a department store. You own your customer relationships and you need the tooling to compete for AI-driven discovery.

Fashion & apparel

The highest-complexity category for AI enrichment and the one with the most to gain. Fit, occasion, climate, formality - all of it matters for AI agent recommendations.

Lifestyle & homeware

Occasion, material, dimensions, compatibility - lifestyle products have rich attribute needs that standard Shopify listings never capture.

Outdoor & sporting

Durability, weather resistance, activity suitability, terrain compatibility - outdoor products benefit more from structured AI attributes than almost any other category.

WooCommerce and non-Shopify merchants

Merchdex is Shopify-first, but WooCommerce, BigCommerce, and Magento connectors are in active development. If you are on a non-Shopify platform, join the waitlist on our contact page. We prioritise by demand - the more merchants waiting for a platform, the faster we build it.
